The Aboriginal Economic Participation initiative’s key focus is to increase the number and diversity of South Australian based Aboriginal businesses successfully winning State Government contracts.
The key industry engagement strategies include providing networking opportunities and building business skills and confidence for owner operators of Aboriginal Enterprises to engage in government contracts.
The Office of the Industry Advocate is pleased to announce that we will be delivering two projects under the South Australian Government Aboriginal Affairs Action Plan 2019-2020 as announced by the Premier, The Hon Steven Marshall on 10 December 2018.
These projects support the South Australian Government’s commitment to making a real improvement to the lives of Aboriginal people in our State and will be developed through meaningful engagement, input and approval from Aboriginal people in both metropolitan and regional areas:
- The South Australian Aboriginal Business Strategy – a co-designed framework for how the South Australian Government and Industry can support current and emerging Aboriginal businesses to grow and prosper.
- The Far North Aboriginal Economic Collective – this commercial framework will increase employment and business growth through supply chain and workforce opportunities for Aboriginal people working and living in South Australia’s Far North region.
Further to this, a priority for the Office of the Industry Advocate is to work with State Government Agencies to identify opportunities within their forward procurement plans for each region.
This initiative also provides incentive for lead contractors to create opportunities for Aboriginal employment and enterprise and will identify Aboriginal businesses across South Australia capable of providing goods and services directly to government.
