Below are a series of questions you should consider when deciding to bid or not. There is no need to assess all 14 questions as a ‘Yes’ before you proceed with a bid but provided the majority of answers are favourable, then a decision to proceed with a bid is warranted.

  1. Does the tender sit within the core offerings of your business?
  2. Does your business have the capability to deliver or do you need to contract in specialist skills?
  3. What is your likelihood of winning the tender?
  4. Do you know who your competitors are likely to be?
  5. How long will the bid response take to draft?
  6. Do you have any relevant examples you could cite in your bid (based on what is in the tender)?
  7. How much is the tender worth?
  8. How much time is left until the tender closes?
  9. Do you have sufficient capacity to deliver should you win?
  10. Do you have past experience with the Government agency?
  11. Does the tender align with your overall business strategy
  12. Based on your assessment of requirements and costs – is the tender likely to be profitable?
  13. What investment in plant/equipment is required to support the contract?
  14. By winning this tender, will you be able to leverage this contract to win other tenders?
