Understanding and knowing who your buyer is will enable you to seek out opportunities for Government work more efficiently and profitably.

There are many agencies in the South Australian Government, each with their own varied purchasing requirements, so it is beneficial for you to understand the needs of each agency in order to identify potential buyers.

We recommend that you consistently familiarise yourself with the SA Tenders and Contracts page to help you target and understand Government buyers relevant to your business. In addition, you should also consider the following:

  • When procuring goods and services, there can be many stakeholders within an agency involved, from end users through to senior executives. This can mean that there is no single person to contact but rather your business may need to interact with a range of people involved in the buying process.
  • For some larger contracts, there may be a whole of government or lead agency contract in place with multiple agencies all buying under the same contract. In this case, there will be a procuring agency (the agency running the procurement who will then manage the resultant contract) and client agencies (who are the buyers under the contract).
  • Keep records of who you contact within a Government agency. This will help you best target your engagement with agencies into the future, and allow you to segment your customer base from interested stakeholder through to decision maker. Remember, if you promise something, follow it up and make sure you deliver.

Quick Tip

Make sure you are registered for tender alerts to avoid missing out on a tender that may be relevant to your business.
